How it plays
Each round deals thirteen cards to each player. Lead one card, then your opponent follows its suit if possible. The higher card in that suit wins unless trump intervenes. Odd-numbered characters add abilities, including changing trump or taking the next lead after losing.
The round’s score depends on how many tricks you take. Seven to nine tricks earns six points, but taking ten or more earns none. Taking three or fewer also earns six, so a weak hand can support a different plan from a strong one.
Decisions you’ll make
Count your tricks as carefully as your high cards. Once you approach nine wins, an apparently powerful card may be something you need to lose with.
The Fox can change the trump suit before a trick is resolved. Consider how that alters both the current pair of cards and the value of the cards left in your hand.
Learning the game
Moderate: the basic trick structure is familiar, but six character abilities and deliberate losing create extra decisions.
